A/N: Ghost box and spirit box are used interchangeable to mean the same thing

Night 1

Room Five; Kitchen

Tools:

-Camera

-Infrared Thermometer

Evening

The staff wasn't happy when I asked to stay in the kitchen for the first night, but they also said that I wasn't the first to do so. One of the older members rolled her eyes at me but still gave me a cot for the night. She said that if there was a ghost then she would have seen it years ago.

I hope I'll be able to catch a few winks but the excitement and anxiety of staying in a haunted place might keep me awake. If I hadn’t heard from other investigators that the ghosts only visit when people are asleep, I might have stayed up the entire night.

I set up the camera with night vision to catch any of the utensils moving in the night along with the infrared thermometer, hence referred to as an inframeter, to check to see if the temperature drops in their presence. I will check back in the morning to see the results.

Morning

I can’t believe what I saw! I’ll start with what I discovered myself. When I awoke there was a single butterknife lying on the pillow next to my face. What could this mean? If they were trying to scare me, surely it would have been a sharper steak knife or butcher knife? The inframeter recorded no sudden changes in temperature during the night so whatever placed it by my head doesn’t use heat as energy.

The camera was both the most exciting and the biggest disappointment. Sometime around 4am there was a flicker of static on the recording and it cut out for a brief second before the butterknife appeared on my pillow. I can clearly see one moment when there was nothing and another when it was there! I just wished I could have seen what moved it.

Night 2

Room Eight; Garden View Room

Tools:

-Camera

-Digital Voice Recorder

-Ghost Box

-Inframeter

Evening

I spoke with some of the younger staff today since they seem more receptive to my investigation. One young man said that this was one of the more popular rooms for ghost spotting. He said that at night if you look out the window the cold creeps over your shoulder and you get the feeling of someone behind you. He reported that once he tried it himself and he could feel a cold dead hand on his shoulder.

When I had checked my belongings into the room. I decided to stay up and use the spirit box to try and contact anyone who might be in the room. I also set up the digital voice recorder, the camera, and of course the inframeter.

I don’t know if it was me or simply because it was getting late but the room had begun to feel colder.  The following is a transcript of the recording.

Me: Is anyone there?

SB: wedding, *silence* kick, into, lasagna, receipt , transfer, transfer, transfer

Me: Do you need something transferred?

SB: invite,  heat, heat, *instrumental music* , silence, sow, to the, heat

Me: Do you need heat?

SB: glasses, *silence* justice,

Me: Did something happen to you?

SB: cold, suffering, wealth, cold, *music*

Me: Do you have a name?

It’s hard to transcribe what came out of the box after I asked for its name. It sounded like a large group of people all shouting something different, I heard names from all different parts of the world so loud I had to shut off the box.

One of the staff members came and knocked on my door telling me to be quiet so I wasn’t able to get any more out of the box tonight.

I have a feeling this place may be home to more than one spirit.

Day

As expected the camera recorded nothing during the night. However the inframeter spiked an all-time low when I used the spirit box. I checked the time on the recording and it was right as the box screamed all the names, the temperature plummeted. I don’t know how I didn’t feel it at the moment, perhaps I was too startled.

Night 3

Room Nine; 3rd Floor Bedroom

Tools:

-Camera

-EMF Sensor

Evening

I asked the staff about this room and like before the older members brushed me off. No matter, I had done my research before coming here and I knew that this room reportedly had a bed that floated. Unfortunately this room has seen better days, and I suspect that it is only rented out when the other rooms are occupied.

One lone lightbulb flickered on the ceiling as I entered and I could feel a dark oppressing aura. It felt as though something was pressing against my skin that got tighter and tighter the closer I was to the bed.

I set up the camera, hoping to catch something in the night before sweeping the room for EMFs. The meter did react slightly to the bed, but it was within normal variation, so I cannot say with certainty if it means anything.

Morning

The night was uneventful. I slept soundly in the bed, despite the feeling still creeping on me and when I checked the camera nothing but the shadows of a tree crossed the room. How disappointing.

Night 4

Room One; Second Floor Bedroom

Tools:

-Inframeter

-Camera

Evening

I was told by the young man, whose name I learned was Roy, that the bathtub was the haunted feature in this room. He told me that guests report that the tub shakes from side to side when the occupants use it.

I examined the tub, a large copper garden tub, and shook it myself to see if the floor was uneven. It was firmly attached to the ground and heavy enough that even I couldn’t lift it.

Given the most ghostly activity seemed to be in the room with the cold spot, I decided to set up the inframeter to see if the hot water from the tub attracted it.

I filled it with hot water before I went to sleep and set up the camera as well.

Morning

I checked all my instruments and there was nothing. I’m dreading it, but I think I’ll have to take a bath myself. I’ll report my findings.

--

When I got into the tub the water swayed from side to side despite the fact that I was still. The tub itself didn’t move, but from the drain the water started to get colder and colder. I had to get out quicker than I’d like since the water soon turned icy and I was freezing!

Night 5

Room Two; Two Queen, limited view

Tools:

-Camera

-Inframeter

-EMF

Evening

I tracked down Roy and he knew exactly what I was after. He held up a small bottle of sand and said that every night at 3am the sink starts pouring the sand out of the faucet. But before morning the sand disappeared. I asked him how he still had a bottle of it and he laughed and said it was from the beach outside and it was just a prop. What a shame.

I know that I will not be able to stay awake until 3am, but I have set a timer to wake me up at 2:30am instead. Hopefully I will not sleep through it!

Before I went to sleep I took EMF readings by the sink and again found nothing. I took the opportunity to try the sink and nothing but cold water.

Morning / 3am

My teeth are chattering and I’m shaking. I can hardly write. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep for the rest of the night.

This place is haunted beyond a doubt.

I woke up and stood by the sink waiting for it to fill. I was still tired and felt myself falling asleep. I had only closed my eyes for a minute but when I opened them the sink was filled with sand, just like Roy had said.

I couldn’t believe it! I shouldn’t have touched it, but I did. The sand was ice cold like it was a beach in the middle of winter. And then I did something more stupid. I put my hand into it, I don’t know what I was trying to find but … something grabbed me. It felt like a hand that drained all the warmth from my body. It held onto me as I tried to pull away but eventually I tugged it free. On my hand there was a bright red mark, like it had been exposed to cold for too long.

It’s faded now, so I don’t know who will believe me. And…. and I checked the camera. I had knocked it over in my struggle… it didn’t catch anything except my feet. I wish I had brought the rest of my team with me.

The Inframeter also spiked low. I think I can confirm this ghost needs warmth to sustain itself.

Night 6

Room 4; One Queen limited Ocean View

Tools:

-Digital Voice Recorder

-EMF

-Inframeter

-Spirit Box

Evening

Roy told me this room is the one with the laughing children. I told him about the sand last night and he shook his head at me and all he would say is I shouldn’t be touching weird things. I know I should listen to him, but I know myself enough to know that probably won’t happen.

He also warned me not to follow the bells and if I heard them, to stop and turn around. I asked what the bells have to do with children and he leaned in close and said some folks believed the child was an innocent soul trying to save people but trapped here by a monster. And the bells were how the monster lured people into it’s grasps.

I decided to use the spirit box to see if I could contact this “innocent soul.”

Me: Hello, is anyone there?

SB: money, dollars, *music* , *laughter*, fiction, fiction

Me: Are there any children?

SB: amusement park, *music*, little girl,

Me: Is there a little girl there?

SB: *radio jingle* come on down to the sunny beach!

Me: Were you at the beach? DId you drown?

SB: destruction, *chatter*, *words in a language I don’t know*, cold, cold, cold

Me: Are you cold too?

SB: *bells*

Me; Hello?

SB: *louder bells*

I started to feel my skin get goosebumps and the oppressing atmosphere of the other room so I shut off the spirit box. Then I realized that the bells weren’t coming from the box but from somewhere in the hallway.

I checked the EMF meter and it spiked when I followed along with the tinkling.

I left the Inframeter in the room and opened the door, following along the passage, letting the meter guide me. I could hear Roy’s voice in the back of my head telling me to go back, but I needed to go just a little longer. The hallway was darker than it was on previous nights and there was something that was different. There was no light from the windows and to look through them was to see Nothing.

The laughter was what snapped me out of it and I ran back into my room and locked the door.

Morning

I hardly slept last night; I just watched the tree branch shadows, like long hands, stretch across the ceiling. The bells kept following me and only stopped when the sunlight hit the room.

Night 7

Room Three; Second Floor, ocean view

Tools:

-Inframeter

-Camera

Evening

Roy was off today, so I had to track down another young member of the staff to tell me about this room. They were a new hire, and only knew some of the stories, but from what they told me about this room, I hope I’ll be having a better night's sleep.

They said in this room the window will open on its own and people have reported the smell of hot steel and a deep rumbling.

Morning

I do not know how I could have been so wrong. Nothing has touched me like the nights before but nothing has shaken me. Something is … wrong. Something that shouldn't exist. Something desecrated and unholy.

The camera recorded the window opening on it’s own, so I have some proof, but there’s no instrument to record how I felt.

I smelled it at first, some sort of steel and hellfire through the window… then I felt the rumbling in my chest and through my bones. There was something out there that was built only to kill. I thought I could hear a child laughing again, and then laughing then all I felt was the deep steel grating against itself. There was something so wrong I couldn’t stop myself from crying.

I don’t know what is wrong with this place.

Night 8

Room Six; Second Floor Ocean View, King

Tools:

-Infrarmeter

-Voice Recorder

Evening

Roy was back today! It’s good to see a familiar face. I talked with him about… everything, and he took things a lot more serious than I thought he would. He was really understanding and told me not to worry so much about this room. He said the only thing in it was the organ music…. Which they don’t have an organ, so he has no idea where the music comes from.

I set up the voice recorder to record through the night because I need sleep. These last three nights have been too harrowing for me to get any winks in. Hopefully I can rest tonight…

Morning

I thought I awoke once in the night to the sound of music, but I can’t recall. I checked the recordings and there was nothing…. The inframeter also recorded nothing. This room was a bust but I’m not upset about it this time.

Night 9

Room Seven; Second Floor, ocean view, King

Tools:

-Inframeter

-Camera

Evening

The peeling eye room is their most famous room and what drew me to this place to begin with. Even the older staff wasn’t so quick to dismiss my questions about it. I couldn’t find Roy to ask any more questions so I’m going in with what I already know from my previous research.

I set up the inframeter and pointed it at the walls along with the camera. I’m planning on staying up this time since I had a good night's sleep yesterday.

Morning

I saw them… at least one pair. It happened just as the reports said, at midnight. All around me the room grew cold and frost started to gather and crystalize at the edges of the room. I could see it grow along the edges and corners until it crept down into the walls.

The paper started to grow darker and darker like an inky fog covered in ice until it peeled away from the wall. Strips curled and fell towards the floor in thick ribbons. I stood up and got closer to it and I could see my breath in front of my face.

From behind the planks of wood I thought I saw movement, but it was just the shadows on the wall again.

The ice formed around the wood and wallpaper in snowflake patterns and I was about to write that off as simply being eye shaped until one blinked at me. I fell backwards, unable to get up, surrounded by the icy stares. All of them were staring at me, blinking in unison.

I sat there unable to move watching them watch me until I blinked and the room had returned back to the way it was before. I looked at my watch and it read 2am. Just as my research had said.

I checked my camera footage in the morning and at midnight when everything was getting cold, the lense froze over. I know I can’t use it to confirm the eyes, but there is something in the lens freezing. The inframeter also confirmed the temperature drop.

I think I can now safely confirm this entity is more than just one ghost.

Day 10

Third Floor, Ocean View, King

Tools:

-Voice Recorder

-Inframeter

Evening

I spoke with Roy about this room since it was one of the ones that wasn’t listed on their website. Roy said an Addy family member had an accident on the roof of the mansion. I asked what happened and he shrugged before saying it was two hundred years ago so not much else is known other than the footsteps would last for hours on end.

There is no way to see the roof from where I was situated in the room but I set up the voice recorder for the night along with the same inframeter.

Morning

I slept all through the night without any noises disturbing me. I checked back with the voice recorder and there was some noise that could indicate a footstep, there wasn’t much else in the recording. I’m uncertain if this could count as something but it didn’t last for “hours” as Roy had claimed. This was more like one or two steps.

I don’t think this room is haunted like the others.

Day 11

Room Twelve; Second floor, ocean and garden view

Tools:

-Camera

-Inframeter

Evening

I spoke with Roy once again, and he had very little to say about this room. He doesn’t believe it to be haunted and said he has only had 2 people tell him something happened and only knows of 6 reports total.

The claims were that something covered the mirror in the middle of the night with ectoplasm. Given what I know about the ghost so far, I doubt those cases to be true.

I set up the camera and the inframeter once more in the bathroom to hopefully see something!

Morning

There is no ectoplasm on the mirror, as I suspected. However, I did take a look at the camera and the inframeter and something else happened in the night! The mirror frosted over and then melted before I woke up! Seems consistent with what I have experienced so far in this place.

Day 12

Room Eleven; THird floor, ocean view

Tools:

-Camera

-Digital Voice Recorder

-Spirit Box

-Inframeter

Evening

I couldn’t find Roy today, but I learned from the other employee that the ghost of a handyman is sometimes seen standing at the foot of the bed. They shrugged and said that the handyman used to live in that room when he was alive and sometimes wants to go back to sleep but people are in his bed.

I couldn’t get much more information out of them, so I decided to try the spirit box once again along with the recorder.

Me: Hello, is anyone there?

SB: straighten the, *music*, owner, good ribs!

Me: Are you the handyman?

SB: convention this, jacket, *laughter*, pattern, pattern

Me: Are you here to fix something?

SB: fate, *words in a language I do not know*, edition, bear the, *music*

Me: Why are you still here?

SB: strange in, socket, thread bit, *music*, relax for, *music* participation

Me: Can you tell me your name?

SB: Evict, *music* Glory, pattern, Choices to be made, *Horn*

Disappointingly, it didn’t work as well this time even though the inframeter recorded a dip in the temperature, it wasn’t as drastic as last time. I set up the camera to see the foot of the bed and record while I sleep.

Morning

There was no handyman on camera. It didn’t record any motion unless you count the tree shadows. What a disappointment!

Day 13, The last day

Room 13, First Floor,

Tools:

-Inframeter

-Voice Recorder

-EMF

-Spirit Box

-Camera

Evening

Roy won’t answer any of my questions about this room. He kept shaking his head and saying he didn’t know. He wouldn’t look me in the eyes when he spoke, so I think he must have been lying. The only thing he said to me was “Don’t turn on the lamp.”

The room was small and cramped and the only thing of note in it was the “lamp” which was a decorative fishing ball made of orange glass with a light inside of it. I checked it with the EMF reader and it was completely normal. For the purposes of investigation I turned it on and the reading was the highest I’d ever seen before in my life.

I pulled out the spirit box and as soon as I turned it on it blared one long horn until I had to turn it off. The sound left me a little shaken and I felt the rumbling in my chest and bones like I had in room three. There is something here and I know it.

I checked the lamp with the inframeter but it was the same temperature as I would expect. I decided to leave the lamp on while I went to bed.

I laid in bed waiting for anything to happen. Before I fell asleep I could swear that I felt something behind the door. My hairs stood on end and everything fell silent except my own heartbeat.

Morning

When I awoke the next morning I felt exhausted and shaky. I had a bunch of red marks on me which felt cold to the touch,  like when the hand in the sink grabbed me. I could barely stand, I felt so drained.

The room was also freezing and a thin layer of frost was on the lamp. I quickly shut it off and checked my camera.

The footage was nearly useless. I don’t know how but something happened to the night-vision. One moment the room was normal, me asleep, the lamp on, and then it just slowly faded to black.

Roy shook his head at me when I checked out in the morning but didn’t say anything else.

I’ll have to go over all of the footage and compile it into a bigger report on the entity that I saw, especially since I noticed on my way out, that the house has no trees.
