Sacred Forge By Cat McDonald

Instruments: 5d6

Game Description

Sacred Forge is a game about creating weapons using the 5 elements: fire, water, earth, air, and metal to create a weapon of legend. Each weapon has a set amount of destiny and through each of the seven steps of forging the weapon, you must try to keep the sword as balanced as possible if you wish to create the perfect blade. This game is also fairly short and will take around 15-20 min depending on how much description you write for each step.

Forge:  The Inviolable Forge

Who are you?

Roll: 6 An other worldly figure

A decision was made by Value, Endings, and Patterns and a being was brought into existence. A body of metal and fire for blood--it was chained to their forge as much as it was the forge and through it and itself created the weapons they would need to secure their future.

Where is your forge?

Roll: 2 A fortress

Holy ruins utop an unreachable mesa far to the south of the word and surrounded by deep ocean. This place was created for the gods by the gods when they waged holy war on the Empire of Malhal.

What Threatens?

Roll: Demons threatening to bring about the end of the world

A Decision made in sleep, desecrated beings known as Demons threaten the gods and mortals. Knowing these creatures are the only way to destroy the Gods, the Empire of Malhal has found ways to secure them for their own uses, through weapons, through people, and through the unholy forging of the Desecrated script on wretched beings of souls, iron, and demons themselves imprisoned onto resolute tracks.

Sword 1

Who approaches you?

Roll: 4

The child of a ruler, who rejects a pampered life

Dominic Pomerance Fuglsang Alda Oarth

A mouthful of a name and one that’s full of strife,

To need shining sword in hand to lead the armies forth

Destiny 20

Metal

Dice amount: 4,  Destiny 16

Roll: 5 A crystal that grows in a secluded sea cave

He came to me, a simple crown upon his head, shoulders square and eyes determined and asked me for a sword and I could not reject what I was forged for. I told him it wouldn’t be easy and he accepted. I told him he had to get me my materials, and he accepted. Then I told him he would regret it and he still accepted. Then I sent him to the caves below, the ones that barely have air to breath to fetch me a crystal that grew and glowed under the salt and brine.

Water: 1

Fire

What kind of blade are you shaping?

Dice Amount: 6 Destiny: 10

A dusack, to shine high above his head when he rides into battle. A long elegant curve with a basket handle that swirled like the foamy tide.

Water

How do you cool your blade?

Dice Amount: 3 Destiny: 7

Salt from the sea beneath the mesa, dried from the wrung water from his cape and woven into the metal. It hisses and smells and it is good that I have no need to breathe.

Water: 2

Earth: 1

Earth:

What kind of stone to grind the edge?

Dice Amount: 4 Destiny 3

From my own forge, I reach in, deep into the fires and pull from it a stone laced with crystals and fire. It cools in my hand and sings as I trace it across the blade, blessing it with the divinity that keeps me alive as well. (+1 Destiny)

Water: 3

Earth: 1

Wood

What kind of ritual do you carry out?

Dice Amount: 4

I held it in my hands, across my stony lap in a quiet prayer, calling to those who can Decide if this blade is worthy. I had good fortune that day , for They appeared, Value incarnate, and blessed it. He touched it once and Divine script etched itself into the surface of the blade. They enjoy things of greater value.

Water: 5

Earth: 1

Name: Isolated Torrent

Highest Element: Water A blade that moves faster than the eye--a blade the shows the truth in reflection.

Lowest Element: 0; it is an ordinary blade.

He doesn’t know how I have failed him; none but myself will know. I watched him as he thanked me, bowed deeply, then left to fall in battle. My next blade will not be so weak.

Sword 2

Who Approaches?

A young warrior who trained for battle all their life,

S. L. Delone from Greystone by the shore,

She desperate at my forge searching for a knife,

The demons are approaching on the seabed’s floor

Destiny: 20

Metal

Dice Amount: 4 , Remaining 16

She had with her a chunk of metal she had seized from an enemy train. The iron has been hammered and reforged many times over with different minerals and I can trace its history through its rings like a tree.

Wood: 2

Fire

Dice Amount: 4 Remaining, 12

What kind of blade

The metal is thick and heavy and I hammered it with my fists until it is reliable, straight, and sturdy. It will cleave even the thickest boulder in twain.

Wood: 2

Earth: 1

Water

Dice Amount: 4, Remaining, 8

How do you bathe the blade

A thick and heavy blade needs a thick and heavy oil, the ones I used for myself and my forge. I poured it slowly over the red-hot metal and watched it pool over the floor and my feet.

Wood: 2

Earth: 1

Metal: 2

Earth

Dice amount: 3: Remaining: 5

How do you sharpen it?

A fire stone from a volcano rests upon my shelf. Not many blades can handle it’s heat but this one will work for sure. I take it down and warm my hands before I sharpen this great blade.

Wood: 2

Earth: 1

Metal: 2

Fire: 2

Wood

Remaining: 5

What kind of ritual

A blade of thick earth and fire must be blessed by the sea. I took it out to the edge of the cliff, as far as the tether would reach, and held it high above my head. The light shone across the water. I stood there in silence until the blade no longer gleamed and the sun set for the day.

Wood: 2

Earth: 1

Metal: 2

Fire: 2

Water: 2

Sword Name: Lost in Sunder

Highest Element: Tie

This blade sings through the air and slices the light as it passes.

She was grateful for the blade, but surprised at its size. It was nearly half the size of her, but she would learn to wield it. This blade will serve her well but neither her nor it will be remembered.

Sword 3

Who approaches you?

Someone part human, someone part spirit,

Deep from the woods grown long and anew,

In search of a blade to restore and inspirit,

The wrath of the gods to demons subdue

Destiny: 20

Metal:

Dice Amount: 4, 16

A being from deep within the new forest, decided in a dream. They had no use for gods except as a means to their own ends. But they too were in danger from the demons and so from the Value Incarnate’s own vault they stole away the sacred gold and handed it to me in a sack made of leaves and dirt. Their goals were the same and I could not deny them my service.

Fire: 2

Fire

What kind of blade are you making ?

Dice Amount: 4, 12

They were a tall and lanky being, with eyes that glowed a soft green and arms too long for their fragile body. I crafted for them the head of a glaive, sharp, swift, and long. (+2 Destiny)

Fire: 2

Water: 1

Destiny: 14

Water

Dice Amount: 4, 10

Thick oil for a fragil blade. I pour the remaining machine oil from my jar onto the slick golden metal and think of how it will not tarnish.

Fire: 2

Water: 1

Metal: 2

Destiny: 10

Earth

Dice Amount: 5; 5

This is an unusual blade for an unusual sort and I am sick of this uncertainty. I take down the old reliable stone from my shelf and slowly, steadily sharpen the golden curve.

Fire: 2

Water: 1

Metal: 2

Earth: 2

Wood

Dice Amount: 5; 0

I called them into my forge where the heat was strong and their wooden body began to sweat. I took their hands in mine and ran their fingers over the flat parts of the edges. We traced it together, neither of us shedding a drop of blood and we thought deeply of those we wished to protect.

Fire: 2

Water: 1

Metal: 2

Earth: 2

Wood: 3

Sword Name: Golden Gyre

Highest Element: Wood

This blade whispers in the night, of power, of might, of all things you could have for yourself. It can cut through the dreaming trees and its power will continue to grow.

Their smile was tense when I presented it to them and they knew that this was not the blade of legend they had hoped. But still they thanked me, paid me, and vanished among the blades of grass in the mesa. I hoped they were not a fool who thought that blade’s value was in it’s first strike.

Sword 4

Who approaches?

An acolyte in training,

Pierra Molindinus,

In The Name campaigning,

For a weapon with no fuss

Destiny 20

Metal

Dice Amount: 4; 16

She had learned of the prince from Oarth who wielded a blade made by the god’s own forge. She too sought the same weapon and presented me with a crystal from the caves below. I could not refuse her.

Water: 2

Fire

Dice Amount: 4; 12

A second glaive in as many months, but the crystal would not bend any other way. It’s edges flattened and twisted into a sharp curve. (+1d)

Water: 2

Fire: 1

Water

Dice Amount: 5; 8

Her clothes were dry and so I could wring no salt from them. I sent her back down into the caves with the baskets and had her return once there was enough. The metal hissed and screamed as it cooled evenly over the curves.

Water: 2

Fire: 1

Earth: 1

Earth

Dice Amount: 4; 4

From the forge I grabbed another singing crystal and worked the edges gently, evenly, singing along with the curves of the melody and crystal voices. (+1 D)

Water: 2

Fire: 2

Earth: 1

Metal: 1

Wood

Dice Amount: 5; 0

This was a community ritual but one that I could not perform alone here with her. I wrote it out in my thick scrawled handwriting and presented the paper to her. She was to take it back to her temple, with her and the other acolytes and priests and all those she could find and anoint it with the holy oil used for trees, each tracing a finger along the curve and thinking of its purpose.

Wood: 4

Fire: 2

Earth: 1

Metal: 1

Wood: 4

Highest element: Wood

This too was a glaive to fell the trees. This too was a blade that would grow in power. Each life it took it would become easier for the blade to take another.

The acolyte did not know a heroic blade from a common blade and accepted it without question. It was unbalanced but good. It will serve her well but it will not be a deciding blade.

Sword Name: Barksplitter

Sword 5

Who approaches you?

All the waking gods are here,

All of them but one,

They call upon my sacred role,

To do what must be done

To forge a knife to stop a god,

To kill their sleeping kin,

To pierce the heart and rend the dream,

And trap them deep within

Sacrificing hallowed blood,

All have gifted rue,

Voices laughed at lost lament,

Eager to see it through,

Mine was last, a final choice--

Embrace their task and lose my voice

Destiny: 30

Metal

Dice Amount: 5; 25

What is it made of?

Value gifted the metal, taken from Their own vault and equal to no other. As they handed it to me they said that this metal will never be made again and it was bespoke solely for this dagger.

Metal: 4

Fire

Dice Amount: 5; 20

What shape does it have?

The metal moved and shaped itself to my will almost without having to hammer at it. It formed a thick straight dagger far heavier than its size would allow.

Metal: 4

Earth: 3

Water

Dice Amount: 5; 15

How do you cool your blade?

I used the last of the sacred oils blessed by priests from the city of Squ’hev. The room filled with a thick smoke that smelled sweetly of flowers and burning wood.

Metal: 4

Earth: 3

Wood: 3

Earth

Dice Amount: 7; 8

Obligation handed to me a piece of the volcano at the center of the world. He told me the weather from all the cities, and told me the amount of strokes to use along the blade’s edge.

Metal: 4

Earth: 3

Wood: 3

Fire: 2

Wood

Dice Amount: 8 ; 0

Life is the only one who is not with us for the ceremony. All of us stood at the water’s edge in silence, waiting for the sun to fade from the sky and the waters to turn dark. None of us could speak but we could all feel her presence cursing us and the blade.

Metal: 4

Earth: 3

Wood: 3

Fire: 2

Water: 1

Sword Name: The God’s Wake Dagger

Highest Element: Metal

It shines brighter than the Pattern Maker and binds the wielder along Obligation’s edge. Those who hold it can never retreat nor leave their task unfinished.

Lowest element score: 1, Consecrated unbalanced, not heroic

This is not the blade they wanted,

This isn’t what they need,

Life will have her vengeance,

In Existence’s own creed

Made to take a holy life,

Stolen from this world,

Order must be set to right,

Reality refurled

Reason will not end this blight,

Yielding to a death in spite
